AP Studio & Portfolio students go on ARC field trip #2

The students in Ms. Holliday's 10th bell class visited the Pendleton Art Center and the Taft Museum on Friday Nov. 19. During this trip, students first visited the studio of Radha Chandrashekaran to learn about her work, her working process, and her source of inspiration.

After visiting the Pendleton, most of us, minus Caroline :( went on to the Taft.
While at the Taft, students did creative presentations on an artwork of their choice.

After the presentations, we had a little time to explore the area around the Taft.

It's cold outside...but it's hot in the kiln!

After what seemed like an "Indian Summer", our warm weather is coming to an end and is being replaced by chapped lips, dry hands, winter coats, heating bills, and frosted car windows.  But let's look on the bright side - it's hot chocolate season!  And Mrs. Lie's Ceramics I students are going to be ready for it.  They worked hard on creating handbuilt slab mugs with handles.  They have all been bisque fired and are awaiting a glaze finish, which the students will do after the Thanksgiving holiday.  These mugs will be perfect for hot chocolate or coffee on cold, wintery days!

AP Studio & Portfolio student Concentration Blogs

During the course of their work in the AP Studio Art and Portfolio classes, students are blogging about the development of their Concentrations. The Concentration Section of the AP portfolio allows students to explore a theme and create a body of at least 12 works that are connected visually as well as by their idea. Check out the blogs at the links below. Feel free to comment, give suggestions, share resources, etc.
Note: Princeton City Schools does not manage pages linked below. Owners of these sites are responsible for the content.

AP Studio & Portfolio students begin the ARC program

On Oct. 14, students in Ms. Holliday's 10th bell class went on a field trip to the Taft Museum of Art to begin the ARC program (http://www.taftmuseum.org/pages/arc.php). This program will allow students multiple learning opportunities through exposure to the artwork in the collection at the Taft Museum as well as interaction with local contemporary working artists. On our first trip, we toured the museum to view the artwork and learn about the history of the building. Next, students will choose a single artwork in the museum to do a creative presentation on during our next visit, late November (I hear that one the subjects of a portrait painting there, may soon have a MySpace page!). We are also looking forward to our first classroom visit by artist Troy Brown earlier in November! Stay tuned on this Blog for more happenings with the ARC program at PHS.
Here is a photo on the way back from our trip, on the bus, bellies full of Chipotle!
