Anna and Charles Taft could never have imagined...

our Viking Artists using iPad technology for presentations on the artworks in their collection.

On Dec. 1, students in the AP Studio Art class at Princeton High School visited Kate Kern's artist studio at Brazee Street Studios before revisiting the Taft Museum of Art (http://www.taftmuseum.org/) to present information they researched about an artwork of their choice from the collection.

AP Studio Students are Blogging!

The AP Studio Art students are blogging about their Concentration Sections of their AP 2-D Design Portfolio. The Concentration Section allows students to work in the same way that many professional artists work, by creating a body of work based on a single idea. The inspirations, resources and references, creations, reflections, and developments of these ideas will be documented on individual blogs maintained by students in order to gather evidence of their own growth and development. You can visit student blogs using the links below.

*Princeton City School District does not own or maintain these sites and content is controlled by individual owner.

Silhouettes based on Kara Walker

In Sculpture/Mixed Media class, students studied the work of artist Kara Walker and created their own silhouettes based on the concept of "FEAR". Each student came up with a list of the fears that they have, and creatively problem solved to figure out to depict this fear using just two materials - black paper and exacto knives. Some of their fears can be recognized and are literal, whereas others were illustrated more abstractly. Here's a sample of some of their finished products!

Ceramics I - Flower Sculptures

In Ceramics I we have been busy! This is just a small sample of the many beautiful flowers the Ceramics I students created. They did an amazing job using colors and creating realistic depth in their flowers. It was a great project to wrap up the first quarter.

ARC Program 2011

Students in the AP Studio Art class at PHS are participating in the Artists Reaching Classrooms Program with the Taft Museum of Art. www.taftmuseum.org/?page_id=103

On Oct. 5, students went on their first field trip to the Taft Museum where they got a tour from our program docents.

After our tour each student went back through the museum to choose an artwork they will do a presentation on when we return in early December. Here is a photo of the whole class with Ms. Holliday in front of the museum.

Yesterday, local artist Joanne Honschopp visited the class at PHS. Check out her artwork here www.jhonschopp.com She did a demonstration of her painting technique for the class! We still have a few more artists visits to look forward to, meanwhile students in the class are working to develop an idea for their own artwork that they will create based on or inspired by some part of their experience with the ARC program.

Scholastics Art Competition

The Art Department at PHS has been working on entering artwork by our talented students into the Regional Scholastics Art Competition. Over 70 individual works from PHS were entered among thousands from other schools in the area (southwest Ohio, northern Kentucky). Last year we had 4 individuals recognized and 1 portfolio. The portfolio and one of the artworks even made it to the National level competition! Hopefully PHS will stand out again this year! Stay tuned...
