One Word for 2014

One Word for 2014

Theme:
Every New Year's day many people in the US resolve to make a change or reach a goal and as we know too well the resolutions are usually broken in a matter of three weeks.
Why not simplify this idea by choosing one word to guide you in 2014?
One word: we can remember it and focus on it and do it. Then you have meaning and mission with that word that gives you passion and purpose to live throughout the year.
Watch the 3 minute clip from the Today show with guest and motivational speaker John Gordon here: http://www.today.com/video/today/53957503#53957503

How do you choose the one word for you?

Visual Challenge (Objectives):
Choose a single word to guide you in 2014.
Express your word visually in a unique and creative way.

Complete this work by the deadline. Your work will be displayed digitally along with the work of your peers!

The Memory Project at PHS

The IB Visual Arts students (Colette Beard, Odessa Boettger, Emilija Bostogaite, Tim Fortner, Michelle Gutierrez, Tanner Kissel, Maddie Lohmeier, and Cara Mosso)  at PHSl are participating in The Memory Project as a project in the Humanity Unit of the curriculum. The Memory Project is a nonprofit organization through which art students in the U.S. create portraits for children and teens around the world who are living in orphanages or similar homes.  Given that youth in such situations usually have few personal keepsakes, the purpose of the portraits is to provide them with meaningful mementos of their youth.  The project also allows art students to practice kindness and service to others while enhancing their portraiture skills. Our students are creating portraits for children in Nepal. The cost for each portrait is a $15 donation. If you are interested in sponsoring a PHS student in this project, please contact Lindsay Holliday at lholliday@princetonschools.net or 513-864-1523. Contributions are tax-deductible, and we will gladly share the photos we taken of the children receiving the portraits in Nepal. For more information on the project go to http://www.memoryproject.org

Carrie Brausch recognized for her Ceramics Work!

Senior Carolyn Brausch was recently named the winner of a high school ceramic art competition at FUNKē Fired Arts!  This is FUNKē’s first year holding the competition.  Current juniors and seniors from the greater Cincinnati area were invited to submit up to three ceramic pieces along with an artist statement and letter of recommendation. The finalists selected will each have one artwork on display for a month-long art exhibit at FUNKē Fired Arts. Not only was Carolyn’s hand sculpture (pictured below) selected as a finalist, but it was also the overall winner!  She essentially wins a scholarship that will allow her to take classes at FUNKē Fired Arts this summer free of charge, and will also serve as an intern where she will learn about the ins and outs of the studio and deepen her understanding of the ceramics world. The opening reception will take place on May 31st from 6:00-8:00pm at FUNKē Fired Arts (3130 Wasson Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45209).

Carolyn’s three pieces submitted include a hand sculpture (the winner!), a coil pot, and a teapot.

Congratulations to Carolyn, and thank you for representing Princeton well!
